It’s monster day or “Les Monstres”, in my home town of Bourges – that one-a-year-day, when you can leave all your unwanted or unloved monstrosities on the street, and the gentlemen of the local refuse department will “evacuate” them for free. This morning along my street, heaps of broken furniture, old bikes, dead TV sets and other defunct consumer durables. A photo to give you an idea …

I wouldn’t call it rubbish though, this is art – impromptu, ephemeral, sculptural “street art” . Random and unique installations. This would not be out of place in a gallery. Rubbish makes good art and there are those works of art that are rubbish.
