I wanted to do a kind of “photo a day” thing. My daughter bought me “A Book of Days” by Patti Smith, where she publishes a succession of hazy, moody and meaningful photos. I wanted to do the same on the blog, kind of reactivate this dormant organ that I pay for and never use. So, I ain’t got an old polaroid lie,Ms Smith, but I got a fairly beat up old Olympus OM-D – It’s over ten years old and its been around. So, that is my hazy, moody and meaningful new year’s resolution. Here goes
January 1st
New Year’s Day in Paris, afternoon stroll around one of our favourite areas “la Butte aux Cailles” – one of those typically Parisian areas that feels like a small village. Paris is so annoyingly pleasing in that respect, distinct and different quartiers that feel like villages in their own right. La Butte aux Cailles is in the 13th arrondissement, just a short walk from the bustle of the Place d’Italie. Today all is calm and this graffiti on a wall just sums it all up.

We always did it when I was a kid, pulled the wishbone every time we had finished the big bird. There weren’t many big birds when I was a kid, so a wishbone was a special occasion. It’s always good to have a few wishes, genies in lamps are pretty rare, so we keep a stock of wishbones in the kitchen. There are those days when you just wanna wish … Hey, pull a wishbone. I wishbone you all a happy new year.

First real foray out to the shops for real, everyday food, and not the festive stuff. Making soup tonight. I found this sprayed on the window of a local shop. I guess this is what I’d want to offer you all for 2024, because I haven’t got enough soup for everyone.
